Client's Concern

This project was completed in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, for homeowners Krishna and Jeff, who hired us to transform their backyard into a functional, pet-friendly, and visually refined space.

Our Approach

The design called for converting the existing lawn into two main areas: one with artificial turf for field hockey, and another featuring a custom putting green. The original concrete pool deck was removed and replaced with pavers to create a warmer, more inviting look.

Additionally, a shaded area near mature trees was redesigned using decorative concrete pads with artificial turf in between, offering a clean, modern aesthetic.

The landscape design was developed by landscape architect Robert Marzolf, and work began in early April.
We started by removing all existing concrete and excavating the sod to a depth of 8 inches. Since the homeowners have dogs, we used a pet-friendly limestone base for the turf, which provides excellent drainage and long-term durability.
All existing sprinklers were carefully reinstalled to ensure irrigation capability during the peak summer months.
While artificial turf typically requires little maintenance, sprinklers help cool the surface and prevent odor buildup.
An extra step we often take on properties with existing irrigation systems to maintain freshness and functionality.
We used pet-safe infill for the field hockey turf area, while a specialized fiber infill was applied to the putting green to enhance playability and performance.
Special attention was given to the existing gas firepit and Brussels Block paver kitchen area when selecting the new materials.
We chose Unilock Beacon Hill pavers and bordered them with 4×8 Holland stone pavers, ensuring the new hardscape tied in seamlessly with the original features for a cohesive and harmonious design.

Outcome

This Grosse Pointe backyard renovation perfectly blends functionality and visual appeal, offering low-maintenance artificial turf areas for recreation, a professional-grade putting green, and a thoughtfully integrated paver patio that enhances the existing outdoor features.

These guys prepped and seeded more than 1.5 acres of rolling lawn with great care and expertise.   Manu and his team did an amazing job transforming our back yard and refreshing our front yard.  After a couple years of having big dogs playing in a small Royal Oak yard, our grass was sparse and looking rough.  Grow Earth dug out the entire back yard, prepared it for dog-friendly turf, installed the turf, designed and installed landscaping, and added river rocks to the landscape beds and around the garage in the back yard.  They also did a spring clean up and  put down landscaping fabric and mulch in our front yard. The team was great to work with and provided excellent service.  They paid attention to the smallest details, took their time to level everything perfectly and maintain our sprinkler system, and ultimately transformed the space into a useful and beautiful (mud free!) space.  It will look even better once the colorful hydrangeas grow out!  The team also cleaned up after the end of each day of work.   Manu and his team were so easy to work with on our backyard project. Manu was a great communicator and they were prompt and polite. They replaced a patch of grass that had been destroyed by aggressive mowing, with beautiful artificial turf as well as a significant amount of mulching.   Grow Earth team worked on our home’s landscaping in Oct. 2024. They removed heaps of mulch and sundry vegetation. All that was previously laid out, much of it poorly graded, was replaced with a beautiful, functional porch and walkway in the front, and rocks, beds and sod along the perimeter and surrounds of the house. The team comprises of Manu (team lead), Daniel (second in command), Trent and Jason (tech experts), Jordan, Jose and Sougat (all-round, efficient helpers and thoroughly nice), Mario and his brother (ever ready support) and Victor (sod laying pro). Very grateful to the wonderful Mr. “Don” Jose and Sons for their most excellent porch and patio work. Memorably, Mr. Antonio Ramirez and Nephews did terrific work with bricks.
