Paver patio installation in Metro Detroit, Michigan highlights Grow Garden and Landscape Design expertise in full-scale landscape transformation, combining precision grading, drainage correction, lawn seeding, and premium paver patio installation.
Originally started in the fall of 2025, the goal was to improve yard drainage through professional grading and establish a healthy lawn. Over time, the project evolved into a complete outdoor living space transformation.
The property had underlying drainage concerns that affected water flow and lawn establishment.
Our initial scope focused on:
However, due to unforeseen delays, the project was temporarily paused before completion.
In January, our team reconnected with the client to resume work and reassess the landscape goals.
At this stage, the homeowner decided to expand the project into a full outdoor living upgrade, adding a custom-designed paver patio to enhance usability and aesthetics.
This shift transformed the project from basic landscaping into a complete hardscape and landscape design build.
By April, once the weather conditions became suitable for construction, work began on bringing the revised design to life. The focus was on carefully translating the updated plan into a functional outdoor space that fit naturally within the existing landscape.
The patio surface was built using Unilock Beacon Hill Smooth Opal pavers, chosen for their consistent texture and timeless appearance, helping create a smooth and balanced outdoor area. For elevation changes within the yard, Fendt Stonegate steps were incorporated, allowing for a gradual and practical transition between different levels of the space while maintaining a cohesive overall design.
The work began with careful layout planning to ensure the patio aligned naturally with the existing yard levels and surrounding space. Excavation was carried out to create a stable foundation that would support long-term performance and proper drainage.
A compacted base was then prepared to provide strength and prevent shifting over time, especially considering seasonal freeze and thaw conditions common in Michigan.
The interlocking pavers were installed with attention to alignment, spacing, and surface consistency, ensuring both durability and a clean, cohesive finish. The steps were integrated into the design to create a smooth transition between different elevations in the yard, improving both movement and usability of the space.
Overall, this phase reflects a thoughtful approach to building functional outdoor spaces that respond to site conditions while maintaining structural reliability and visual balance.
In the final stage of the project, attention shifted back to refining the natural landscape around the newly built hardscape. This phase was focused on restoring balance to the yard and ensuring the ground conditions properly supported both drainage and future lawn growth.
Final grading work was carried out to gently shape the land, allowing water to move naturally away from key areas and preventing any low spots where pooling could occur. The soil was then refined and prepared to create a healthy base for grass establishment.
Once the ground conditions were properly set, professional lawn seeding was completed to begin the process of developing a uniform and healthy turf over time. This step ties the entire project together by blending the constructed patio space back into a living, green landscape.
The goal of this phase is long-term stability—supporting natural water movement, encouraging strong root development, and ensuring the yard continues to improve as the lawn matures.
What began as a drainage-focused landscape improvement evolved into a complete outdoor transformation, where both functionality and design were carefully balanced.
Through a combination of structural grading corrections, a custom-built paver patio, and newly established lawn areas, the property now functions as a cohesive outdoor environment rather than separate elements.
The finished space is not only more practical in terms of water management and usability but also visually unified, creating a natural flow between the hardscape and surrounding landscape.
